Cheek Augmentation
Post-Operative Instructions
- A moderate amount of swelling and bruising is expected. This may be eliminated by the use of
ice compresses. These may be prepared as follows: Fill a bowl with water and ice cubes. Use gauze sponges or a wash
cloth. Wring these out well and apply the compresses, ten minutes on followed by five minutes off. Do not apply ice
bags to the area as they are too heavy.
- Limit your talking and excessive chewing until tenderness and swelling start to resolve which is usually in two
to three days.
- You may gently wash your face immediately except the the areas that may be taped.
- Men should avoid shaving for three to five days or until tenderness and swelling begin to diminish.
- You may use astringents and skin fresheners on a cotton ball or tissue, being careful to avoid the taped areas.
- The implants should not be pushed in any way or slept on for seven to ten days.
- If you have stitches inside your mouth, these will dissolve in ten to fourteen days. Stitches inside your mouth should
be cared for by having a cool liquid diet for seven to ten days. A salt water rinse should be used frequently for the
first several days. Use one teaspoon of salt for eight ounces of water and swish around the inside of your mouth to help
cleanse the stitch line.
- If you have stitches on the outside of your eyelids, these will be removed in six to seven days.
True pain is unusual. Discomfort and tightness are more common. Sleeping with the head elevated on one or two soft
pillows is recommended for several days. For six weeks, you should be very careful not to bump the implants or rest your
hands on your cheeks. Chewing may be slightly uncomfortable for a few days, and a soft diet is recommended.
Showers can be resumed the next day.
