Dermabrasion

Procedure

While a chemical peel is best for wrinkles, dermabrasion is excellent for smoothing out scars and acne-related pockmarks. The procedure is usually performed under light general anesthesia; the risks and recovery are similar to a peel. Most patients can expect at least a 50% improvement with this procedure and it can be repeated again in six months in difficult cases.

A Diamond Wheel dermabrater is used to physically remove the outer layers of the skin. Most patients can expect at least a 50% improvement with this procedure and it can be repeated again in six months in difficult cases.

After the procedure, your face will be covered with a yellow dressing and our office will provide you with ointment. This ointment should be applied to both the yellow dressing and around the edges of the dressing two to three times daily. Some oozing will be expected and the dressing will start to separate on the third or fourth day. By this time, your face will be very similar to what was described under Facial Peel. The same instructions and a similar type of recovery for a facial peel should also apply to dermabrasion.
