Leg Veins
Procedure
Treatment is done by injecting a concentrated saline or specially developed chemical solution with a very small
needle into the spider or varicose veins. The solution washes over the tiny cells which line the inner wall of the
blood vessel. The solution dries out the cells, causing them to shrink and leaving them unable to carry blood.
Eventually, the blood vessels disappear. The work of carrying the blood is shifted to other healthy blood vessels
nearby, consequently improving circulation.
Specific treatment varies with size and location of the dilated veins, but suffice it to say the bulk of therapy is
sclerotherapy, an injection into the abnormal vein with a chemical irritant to close the vein down. For smaller facial
veins, PhotoDerm an intense light therapy is typically used and for very large veins surgery may be required, but the
bulk of the leg spider veins are treatable by sclerotherapy.
