Tummy Tuck
Procedure
During abdominal surgeries, incision lines are placed within the bikini line, just above the pubic hair. Depending on
the extent of skin removal, the incision may extend to the groin crease like a C-section scar (mini tuck) or all the way
to the pelvic crest in more extensive cases (traditional tuck). In some cases, a midline, up and down incision may be
necessary to remove a large excess of skin. A catheter is frequently used to keep the bladder flat during surgery.
Early in the formal, not modified procedure, the belly button has been pulled down and removed, a new, smaller one is
created using your own belly button. Loosened muscle layers may then be tightened and hernias repaired for a tighter tummy.
Buttock and thigh lifts are performed by making an incision in the inner groin line. The buttock lift incision is
performed under the buttock and around the side of the hip. The skin is loosened down to the muscle layer. Next, peripheral excessive fat is either suctioned or excised away,
depending on the amount. Finally, loose excessive skin is removed and the tissues are meticulously closed with several
layers of specialized stitches. Stitches placed under the skin are usually absorbably. These on the surface of the skin
are removed from 10-21 days later, depending on the individual healing process.
Depending on the extent of the repair, the recovery care consists of either resting at home or if more extensive,
one to several days in the hospital.
