Nasal Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
Common Questions
How old should the patient be before considering surgical treatment?
There is generally no age limit, but for most non-reconstructive cleft problems, one should be mid to upper
teens and up before seeking treatment.
What areas of nasal surgery do you do or don't do?
Congenital defects are addressed and as mentioned above, almost at any age. Outward cosmetic changes are treated
varying from a bump or hump on the top of the nose to too thick or bulbous tip, too wide, long, or nasal flaring
can be addressed. Internally turbinate and septal surgery is done to improve impaired breathing situations. I do
not do sinus surgery, but if both sinus and cosmetic nasal surgery is to be done, we may be able to coordinate it
with the ENT surgeon so that both could be done at the same anesthetic time.
What about redo nasal surgery?
My cosmetic training was with Dr. Steven Hoefflin (Dr. Hollywood) and during my cosmetic fellowship with him
there was a large amount of redo nasal surgeries referred to him. Certainly the most challenging of all nasal surgeries.
Does insurance cover nasal surgery?
Straight forward cosmetic or redo nasal surgeries are not, but if there is a component of obstructive nasal
airway problem that aspect of the nasal surgery may be covered. A predetermination with the insurance company
frequently clarifies this question.
When are the results of nasal surgery seen?
Frequently right away, but the final look is typically not evident until 6-12 months postoperatively.
