Ear Correction (Otoplasty)
Otoplasty is a surgical procedure in which large or prominent ears are sculptured and brought in closer to the
head to correct their appearance. Whether undesirable ear shape or size is the result of heredity or developmental
abnormalities, the operation can be performed any time after the age of four. We perform otoplasty on adults as well
as children, but in cases of severe disfigurement, much can be gained by having the surgery performed at a young age.
By operating on a pre-school age child, we can prevent the development of emotional problems which sometimes stem
from the child's sense of being "different". In older individuals ear lobe size can be a concern and lobe
reduction can be done.
In most cases, otoplasty is deemed an elective procedure and insurance companies no not normally cover the cost.
If the surgery is performed to correct a disfiguring birth defect, however, the expenses may be totally or partially
paid by your insurance carrier. We generally perform the procedure in an outpatient surgery facility insurance.
